Ecommerce News Roundup | 29 August 2022

Well here we are with the last ecommerce & digital news before the schools are back…

Recently, we’ve seen a lot in the press about the new kid on the block challenging Instagram with its promise of authenticity and real connection – elements that are in stark contrast to the filter-based Instagram app.

And they have some seriously impressive stats to back it up too – no doubt helped along by Instagram’s alienation of some of its audience earlier this year with its pivot to Reels.

  • 74.5% of its total downloads have happened this year!
  • It has been downloaded more than 10 million times (with almost 50% coming from the US).
  • App downloads have increased by 315% since the beginning of this year.

However, Instagram has no intention of giving up its top spot and Meta has already confirmed it is (internally) testing IG Candid – a BeReal clone for Instagram.

So, watch this space!

Social will continue to change, but in which direction…?

The value of an idea lies in the using of it.
